Hello everyone, I’ll be returning to my hometown of Chicago this weekend to participate in the Blunt Graffix “Loaded Guns” show at Galerie F opening on March 22nd. The gang and gangster themed show will feature more than 35 artists from across the globe including some acclaimed artists such as Frank Kozik, Brian Ewing and Tim Oliveira. For those of you who can attend the event, it will be catered by Chicago native and Hell’s Kitchen season 10 participant Brian Merel. Any prints not sold during the event will be on sale at the Galerie F online store at www.galerief.com.
I chose to do a Hells Angels themed print as I happened to be reading Hunter S. Thompson’s book Hell’s Angels: The Strange and Terrible Saga of the Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs when I learned about the show. I decided to use an image of Sonny Barger who was a central figure in the book and who epitomizes the outlaw mentality of the Hells Angels. He has written several books himself, spent several years in prison and after surviving throat cancer continues to ride today.
There are two variants of the print titled “Hell is the New Black” available for sale at the show. The two color print (fluorescent magenta/black) is an edition of 15 and the three color print (fluorescent pink/silver/black) is an edition of 10. Both are hand screen printed on archival quality art paper and are 18X24 inches.

The results of the auction to benefit victims of the Aurora, CO shooting are in and we raised a total of $1,500. Many thanks to the artists who donated work as well as the members of Expressobeans that added prints to the auction as it went along. I also want to again thank Robert Asato who helped put together the auction as well as take care of all of the administration including donating the funds.
During the auction the victim’s families voiced their frustration with the lack of funds being distributed in a timely manner to those affected by the tragedy. We decided to allow all winning bidders an opportunity to vote to donate the money to an alternate fund given the Aurora Victim Relief Fund’s inability to manage and distribute the proceeds. The winning bidders voted unanimously to donate the money directly to Caleb Medley so that the funds could be used immediately. You can read Caleb’s story here http://supportcaleb.com
Hello all, I will be included in an auction along with several other artists to benefit the victims of the tragedy that took place on July 20, 2012 at the Century Theatres in Aurora, Colorado. All the proceeds from this auction will be donated to the non-profit organization, Community First Foundation-The Aurora Victim Relief Fund (http://www.communityfirstfoundation.org). The donation will be made in the name of the non-profit site Expressobeans where the auction will be taking place. Community First Foundation, a longstanding community foundation, has established the Aurora Victim Relief Fund in partnership with Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper. This fund will only be used to meet the immediate and long-term needs of victims and their families and, as funds are available, the broad needs of those affected in the community.
The auction is now open for bidding at the following link and will be running until September 1st at 9:00 p.m P.S.T. (http://forum.expressobeans.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=97599.) In order to bid on the Expressobeans forum you must be a member, it is free to join and takes less than a minute. However, if you do not wish to join you can also bid on my site by clicking on the image of the piece you’re interested in and leaving your bid in the comments section. Any bids received on my site will be posted by 6 p.m. PST daily. The winning bidder will be responsible for paying shipping costs. In the event of multiple bids at the same price at the deadline of September 1st at 9:00 p.m. P.S.T. each person will be given one more opportunity to resubmit a final bid.

I have a new print titled “Time to Spray the Donuts ” that will be released on Friday, February 24th at 12:00 p.m. PST through the Get Up Gallery at http://getupgallery.bigcartel.com/. These are a two color hand puled screen print on Arches 88 140lb paper with hand finished diamond dust on the sign. There will be standard edition of 20 with 6 Artist Proofs as well as a special edition of 5 with additional pink diamond dust applied to the donuts.
As you all are likely aware, this image came from the pepper spray incident at U.C. Davis which occurred in November, 2011. The students were peacefully protesting at the campus as part of the Occupy Wall Street movement and were incessantly sprayed by campus police after they refused to move. When I watched the video of the incident I was disgusted at what I felt was excessive force by the police and knew that in some way I had to use the footage. After I watched it back several times what really struck me was the very casual expression on the face of the officer that continued to spray the students after it was clear he had made his point. It sort of reminded me of the bored look that someone might have on their face as they water their plants while they consider what they will be having for dinner that evening. The first thing that came to my mind was; “what a douchebag.” I made the decision to use that term in the print even though it may not be the most positive message. I myself have personally witnessed police brutality and am disgusted at the fact that officers that are paid from our tax money continue to abuse their powers and harm the very people that put food on their table. Since I don’t have a voice in the political arena the only way I know how to effectively express my opinion and to be heard is through my art.
In other news, I will be having a solo show at the Get Up Gallery that will run from March 2nd through April 1st. Watch for an upcoming post with further information and some images of the pieces that will be included in the show.

Hello everyone and Happy Holidays. I wanted to give you all a heads up that the Get Up Gallery will be posting a limited edition of new prints for sale in the next couple of days titled “Lady Died.” The inspiration for this print came during all of the hoopla of the recent royal wedding between Kate and William. I felt that with all of the attention being paid to the royal family somehow Diana’s legacy was being lost in all of the hype. I began to research images of Diana and ran across a letter that she wrote to her butler Paul Burrell in which she predicted that Prince Charles was planning to kill her. The letter reads: ”I am sitting here at my desk today in October, longing for someone to hug me and encourage me to keep strong and hold my head high. This particular phase in my life is the most dangerous – my husband is planning ‘an accident’ in my car, brake failure and serious head injury in order to make the path clear for him to marry Tiggy. Camilla is nothing but a decoy, so we are all being used by the man in every sense of the word.”
I was stunned by how accurate her prediction was related to how she would be killed, and began to wonder if the royal family indeed did have a hand in her death. I decided I would use the letter in the print along with images of the crash to offer one explanation of her tragic death.
There are two different variants of this print available, each is an edition of 5 with two Artist Proofs signed and numbered. The first is a three-color print on Arches 88 Silkscreen Paper finished with Diamond Dust on the image of Diana. The second is a four-color print on Arches 88 Silkscreen Paper. The image is 16X20 inches and the paper is 22X30 inches with deckled edges. Only three of these prints are available, so head over to the Get Up Gallery store at http://getupgallery.bigcartel.com/ before they sell out.
