Welcome to my blog, where I will be posting original paintings and limited edition Screen Prints available for sale at my store blakeart.bigcartel.com. For the last few years I have been creating mixed media and abstract paintings in attempt to distract myself from the noise of the outside world. As with most artists I lacked the confidence to believe that anyone could understand or appreciate what I created in my garage. I’ve been fortunate to have great friends and family who have encouraged me to share my work, so here we go…..
I’m influenced by the worlds of music, graphic design, urban art, surf culture, and street culture. I’m interested in the marriage of opposites in art. I believe in symmetry and the power of nostalgia. I generally choose images for my paintings from the past as it provides some kind of distance or unique perspective .
The first painting that will be released for sale is a mixed media piece from the “When Smoking was Cool” series titled “James Dean Smokes”. This painting is12X16 on canvas in a barn wood frame that measures 15.5X19.5 inches. This piece is currently available at blakeart.bigcartel.com
I will also be releasing the following two prints “Johnny2Times” and “4 Andies and 2 Edies” on November 12th at 6:00 p.m. Pacific. The Johnny Cash print measures 13X7 inches and is printed on 100Lb Vellum paper that is cut to 16X20 inches. It is an edition of 10 with two artist proofs — all of which are signed and numbered. The Andy and Edie print measures 12X10 inches and is printed on Canson 140Lb paper with an overall size of 15X20 inches. It is an edition of 10 with one artist proof — all are signed and numbered.
I would like to thank my wife for helping launch this site as well as her patience and support throughout the years. I would also like to thank Kirk Lamb and Michael Guerrieri, Robb and Cindy Fisher and Gretchen Dockendorff for their support and encouragement.
